Mens Health

I've been enjoying my recent regular work for Men's Health UK. It's everything you'd expect from a magazine for blokes... from boxing training and male-grooming, via Game of Thrones to the inevitable promise of caveman abs.

CD Swap - Year Nine

My CD Swap game (delayed eight months by all the preparation for my diary book) is FINALLY back for it's 9th year.

If you're reading this - you're invited to play. If you haven’t taken part before, here’s the lowdown; make a compilation CD of your favourite music – any number of tracks. Burn 10 copies and send them to me. (Design a nice sleeve if you're artistically inclined - this bit is optional)

A few weeks later you will receive a selection package containing 10 randomly chosen compilations by the other players. All swappers are welcome, whether you know me personally or not – but please let me know if you’re playing ASAP by e-mailing

I will need to cap the numbers beyond a certain point so if you want to take part, register your interest and I'll get your name down on the list.
If you've got friends who want to take part that's fine too - but do let me know! I’ll respond with a fuller list of instructions, my address etc.

If you live in Brighton and I can hand-deliver your selection pack, the CD swap is free to enter.
If you live outside Brighton, I'll need to ask for £4, this is just to cover the postage costs. (Overseas players welcome too - but I'll have to ask for £6)

The deadline is Monday September 29th - you've got ages to dream up your playlists!

Princeton Alumni

A couple of recent portraits for Princeton University's Alumni Magazine. These dapper fellows graduated in the class of 1914. Above, Hobey Baker - gifted sportsman, later a daring pilot in World War I - awarded the Croix de Guerre but tragically killed in a plane crash just after the Armistice. Below, James Vincent Forrestal who served on the World War II administration of Roosevelt, later Defense Secretary under Truman.

Kickstarter Day Thirty

If you follow me on social media you’ll already know that my Kickstarter campaign was 100% funded. I reached my target three days ahead of the deadline. Final total stands at £7179, and 191 lovely people backed me. It was a nail-biting month, and when I launched the campaign I have to say I wondered if it really would be possible. It seemed like such a huge, huge mountain to climb. I never assumed success was a foregone conclusion – and the success of this book, when it is finished, will all be down to the generous people who offered their support. Not just the backers, but all the people who tweeted or shared the relevant links. I’m amazed and blown away to have had this personal project supported in such a way – Thank you!

Kickstarter Day Twenty

Ten days left to run on my Kickstarter campaign and I continue to be delighted and heartened by the response to my book. I am still right on target to meet my goal - and I only have the faith and encouragement of my backers to thank.

The £14 earlybird rewards are long since sold out - though it's worth emphasising that many of the rewards offered are at a special price- the Diary Book itself being a great case in point. When it's released, I expect this 200 page full colour hardback book to be sold via my online shop at £20 (inc p&p). Pre-order it in the next ten days and you can still get it for just £16, inclusive of postage - AND get your name listed as a backer in the Credits page.
As an extra incentive I have added a new £40 reward - a copy of the book plus 2 beautiful picture 7" singles by Artmagic featuring artwork by me. This reward is strictly limited to 5 backers only!If you haven't pledged yet, get involved via the link below - or share it via social media to give me a boost to the finish line!

Kickstarter Day Eleven

Just over a third of the way through my Kickstarter campaign (click here to view the page) and the response has already been amazing. Yesterday I made it halfway to my funding goal. I have to offer heartfelt thanks to those who have already pledged and shared the link - for without you, projects like this simply couldn't happen. It has been humbling and exciting to witness this collective support unfolding.
I've spent all week e-mailing and tweeting like mad to get word of this project out there. It was a particularly nice moment when Jon Ronson, a writer I admire, tweeted praise for both project and video to his 89,000 followers. I was also delighted to have my work discussed with sensitivity and no small amount of panache in Julia Kite's blog (here's the link).
All ten of my £45 rewards are gone, so I've added a new £50 reward stage, which includes an exclusive set of 5 PJF greetings cards. Meanwhile (at the time of writing) only TWO of the original fifty £14 rewards remain in stock.
It's proceeding well but if you're reading this and can possibly think of any further ways you can share, promote and support this campaign, then please do get involved - there are still lots of lovely rewards on the Kickstarter page. I can't do this without your help!
