Princeton Alumni

A couple of recent portraits for Princeton University's Alumni Magazine. These dapper fellows graduated in the class of 1914. Above, Hobey Baker - gifted sportsman, later a daring pilot in World War I - awarded the Croix de Guerre but tragically killed in a plane crash just after the Armistice. Below, James Vincent Forrestal who served on the World War II administration of Roosevelt, later Defense Secretary under Truman.

Kickstarter Day Thirty

If you follow me on social media you’ll already know that my Kickstarter campaign was 100% funded. I reached my target three days ahead of the deadline. Final total stands at £7179, and 191 lovely people backed me. It was a nail-biting month, and when I launched the campaign I have to say I wondered if it really would be possible. It seemed like such a huge, huge mountain to climb. I never assumed success was a foregone conclusion – and the success of this book, when it is finished, will all be down to the generous people who offered their support. Not just the backers, but all the people who tweeted or shared the relevant links. I’m amazed and blown away to have had this personal project supported in such a way – Thank you!

Kickstarter Day Twenty

Ten days left to run on my Kickstarter campaign and I continue to be delighted and heartened by the response to my book. I am still right on target to meet my goal - and I only have the faith and encouragement of my backers to thank.

The £14 earlybird rewards are long since sold out - though it's worth emphasising that many of the rewards offered are at a special price- the Diary Book itself being a great case in point. When it's released, I expect this 200 page full colour hardback book to be sold via my online shop at £20 (inc p&p). Pre-order it in the next ten days and you can still get it for just £16, inclusive of postage - AND get your name listed as a backer in the Credits page.
As an extra incentive I have added a new £40 reward - a copy of the book plus 2 beautiful picture 7" singles by Artmagic featuring artwork by me. This reward is strictly limited to 5 backers only!If you haven't pledged yet, get involved via the link below - or share it via social media to give me a boost to the finish line!

Kickstarter Day Eleven

Just over a third of the way through my Kickstarter campaign (click here to view the page) and the response has already been amazing. Yesterday I made it halfway to my funding goal. I have to offer heartfelt thanks to those who have already pledged and shared the link - for without you, projects like this simply couldn't happen. It has been humbling and exciting to witness this collective support unfolding.
I've spent all week e-mailing and tweeting like mad to get word of this project out there. It was a particularly nice moment when Jon Ronson, a writer I admire, tweeted praise for both project and video to his 89,000 followers. I was also delighted to have my work discussed with sensitivity and no small amount of panache in Julia Kite's blog (here's the link).
All ten of my £45 rewards are gone, so I've added a new £50 reward stage, which includes an exclusive set of 5 PJF greetings cards. Meanwhile (at the time of writing) only TWO of the original fifty £14 rewards remain in stock.
It's proceeding well but if you're reading this and can possibly think of any further ways you can share, promote and support this campaign, then please do get involved - there are still lots of lovely rewards on the Kickstarter page. I can't do this without your help!

Kickstarter Day One

Today I’ve launched a Kickstarter campaign to produce a 200 page A5 hardback book celebrating 10 years of my visual diary project.
All the important information can be seen on the Kickstarter page here. The wonderful short film at the top of the page, directed by Nic de Jesus, is a great place to start.

If you want to help me with this campaign, there are two ways you can make a difference.
1) Make a donation.
This is a 30 day ‘all or nothing’ campaign - meaning that if I fail to reach my £7000 funding target, no-one’s cards will be charged. This makes it a risk free investment for backers.
My appeal page features a number of really sweet rewards, across a big scale of differing budgets from £3-£400. There’s the opportunity to have your name listed in the credits page of the book, and also to pre-order it at a cheaper price than it will be sold in shops.
2) Spread the word. The more people who know about this, the more opportunities I will have to reach my funding goal, it’s as simple as that.

I’ll be writing a few more blogposts over the next 30 days to update you on the progress of this campaign, and also to reflect on a decade of my visual diary. Watch this space….

Simple Things

In my monthly 'Miscellany' slot for The Simple Things magazine, I've lately been showing the world the sheer variety of weird and wonderful ways that exist to tie your humble shoelaces.

Whilst also keeping readers abreast of a range of practical garden skills, from how to train climbing roses on a trellis...

To how to protect your plants from the frost...

Via the correct way to take and grow a hardwood cutting....

And even what to do if you find an injured hedgehog.
